Salobrena or Salobreņa to give it itīs correct Spanish spelling is considered by many to be prettier than Amunecar, but is considerably smaller. Salobrena is a dramatic white pueblo village topped by a castle with the Mediterranean Sea to itīs south and the awesome Sierra Nevadas to the north. For those looking for property for sale in Salobrena, (currently 85% of buyers of property for sale in Salobrena are Spanish investors!) there is a wide selection of affordable property available. Salobrena is surrounded by fertile plains which are still predominantly used for growing fruits and vegetables for the northern European market. Salobrena village looks incredible during the day and night in both winter and summer. Being smaller Salobrena has less opportunities for business and shopping than Almunecar, but with the town of Motril a 5 minute drive away this is not a problem. Some of the property is slightly scruffy however, Salobrena's old town is a delight to wander around and you will experience a feeling of security and safety. Salobrena castle is a must visit, with tremendous views over to Motril and Almunecar and the museum has some great exhibits.Salobrena has several urbanisations around the edge of the town providing an array of villas for sale, the majority with outstanding views. The jewel in the crown is Monte de los Almendros with over 300 villas, communal swimming pool, tennis court, 5 a side football pitch, private water supply, private refuse collection etc.
Salobrena like Almunecar, has plans for a golf course, marina, leisure complex (bowling alley, cinema shopping, etc.) and a formula testing track. It will also benefit greatly from the new motorway links from Malaga, (open up to Taramay 2km away in 1 year) and from Granada within 5 years. Currently Salobrena has an 18 hole golf course (just increased from 9 to 18 holes) 3 km away in Motril, beside the sea. The new motorway to Granada has already dramatically reduced the travelling time to the skiing, in the Sierra Nevadas, to within one hour and the wonderful Alhambra world heritage site, is only 45 minutes away. Property for sale in Salobrena have shown an increase in price over the last three years and property certainly will continue to rise in value over the next five years. Again Salobrena has a good stretch of beach with lots of bars and restaurants to keep you fed and watered. Enjoy the free tapas which the Granada region still enjoys when you buy an alcoholic drink or a little biscuit with your tea or coffee. The prices in the Costa Tropical are generally cheaper than the Costa del Sol which is also good news and Salobrena is no exception. In Salobrena the mix of northern Europeans(10%) and Spanish (90%) ensures a very Spanish feel to the village but a warm welcome is always guaranteed. The property prices of property for sale in Salobrena is generally a little cheaper than Almunecar and La Herradura, that could change, as Salobrena has just won the Seal of Quality for Smaller Historical Centers.
